But stay with it, and the surface begins to reveal itself. Beneath and through that darkness, an entire world of color has been buried and partially reclaimed: flecks of burnt orange and rust cluster toward the center, blush pink and pale mauve drift across the lower half like something blooming in low light, and bright green pushes through along the bottom edge with quiet insistence. A small circular mark in the upper left — drawn or pressed into the surface — sits like a moon or an eye keeping watch over it all.

The texture is extraordinary and demands to be seen in person. The surface has been built up, worked, and worked again until it has the density of something geological — ridges, craters, and passages that catch and hold light differently at every hour of the day.
